All Thing Money: Mother's Day, Hooray for Mom!

Mother's Day is one of the most important commemorative days of the year, where families across the world get together in celebration of motherhood.

Whether it is a new mom or the family's matriarch, moms worldwide are known to do whatever it takes to get their families ahead, which is worth celebrating.

Why Do We Celebrate Mom?

Mothers will do whatever it takes to support their families. From cooking and meal prepping to attending soccer games to providing financial and emotional support, it is safe to say that mothers wear many hats and are usually the piece that holds a family together.

Celebrating mom is nothing new. In fact, celebrations can be traced back to the ancient Romans and Greeks, who would throw festivals in celebration of their maternal goddesses, Rhea and Cybele. As a result, Mother's Day is celebrated across the globe.

Happy mother's day

In the United States, the first Mother's Day was established by President Woodrow Wilson on May 9, 1914, It would be celebrated on the second Sunday of May each year.

"As a public expression of our love and reverence for the mothers of our country."

  • President Woodrow Wilson

He publicly announced that all should thank their mothers for the hard work that goes into raising children and running households after the successful event planned and marketed by Ana Jarvis.

She created an event at her local church that brought Confederate and Union soldiers together to celebrate peacefully. And she figured the best way to do that was a celebration in honor of everyone's mothers on the anniversary of her mother's death.
